When we first moved to Beaufort, I was working as a nanny while also being a stay-at-home mom to my daughter, who’s now almost three.

And honestly, that first year was really lonely for me. My husband is a USMC drill instructor, and I just wasn’t used to his schedule yet—he would leave around 3 in the morning and not get home until 8 at night.

At the time, my daughter was about a year and a half and just starting to walk, so even getting out of the house felt hard. In the summer, the mosquitos were constantly biting her little face, and in the winter it felt like we were either too cold or always getting sick.

So I really struggled during that time… just trying to figure out where we fit and how to get through those early days.

So finally I decided to take a  leap and create something of my own—Palmetto Playhouse. It’s been a lot of learning, a lot of growth, and definitely some challenges, but seeing kids enjoy the space and parents make connections in real time is so so worth it.
